Coprinellus micaceus
Extremely common mushroom growing in clusters on hardwood stumps , buried wood and organic debris. Once known as Coprinus micaceus due to it's similarity to the Coprinus genus but does not grow in fecal material (Coprinus -dung, filth) and is much smaller than most Coprinus species. Thus the name was changed to Coprinellus from - ellus (meaning diminutive) indicating smaller fruit bodies than those of Coprinus and of coarse micaceus meaning like - grains of salt or mica- referring to the common name Mica Cap.
