Lactarius rufus

Lactarius rufus can be distinguished by its brick red fruiting bodies with unchanging white latex, a strongly acrid taste and growth under pine. The generic name Lactarius means producing milk (lactating) while the species name rufus is Latin for foxy reddish brown color. Very common in pine forest across Alberta.
