Pluteus leoninus
These beautiful mushrooms can be found growing solitary or in small groups on old mossy poplar logs. With a bright yellow cap with a dark center and white stem, they can hardly be missed. A very similar species Pluteus chrysophaeus is usually smaller and normally does not have a dark center. Microscopic examination is often required for positive identification. Fairly common in Alberta.
